Folks local to the gallery have loved these handwoven towels by Frayed Knot for years. The towels are hand-woven in small runs using yarn reclaimed from the tailings of our regional textiles industry.

The tailings are the parts of the thread that run through the industrial looms at the beginning and end of a textile production run of fabric, generally upholstery. The tailings for a production run can be hundreds of feet long and can number in the hundreds, and are a waste product of the industry.

Anita Fox of Frayed Knot reclaims these tailings in bulk and uses them to create her fantastic towels. In gathering the fiber, Anita never knows what colors she will get. As a result, she’s become a master at creating fantastic and eye-catching color combinations.

Due to the reclaimed nature of the fiber, quantities of any individual color combination are limited (usually to 4) and may not be repeated.

Some patterns are more complicated and time-consuming to weave which accounts for the price differences between towels.
